At this time a completely bizarr ambience is evolved in this district. Seemingly dead bodies lie scattered in the streets (however exhausted bodies) when simultaneously thousands of Japanese start already their day's work.

Half Awake Half Asleep

revised 2006

Video Projection, DVD, 11’21” in loop

Soundtrack by Mika Vainio

The work is based on found footage material of so-called Base Jumpers. The footage shows a base jumper performing his skydive, which is officially banned. The material is worked with various modes of, at times, extremely decelerated motion. The changing colours of the video image - according to the colours of the rainbow - reflects this unstable state of mind between sleep and awakening. The sound has been conceived to further condense of dreamlike atmosphere.

The world is everything that is the case

2003

Single-channel Video, 2'23" in loop

The Video work is based on footage from a TV documentation about so-called Castellers, spanish athletic groups that attempt to beat each other in (per)forming the highest human pyramid. The Video contains few seconds from the documentation, namely the moment when the human pyramid collapse. Those seconds were then digitised, the images abstracted by means of digital techniques. A specific sound is assigned to underscore its dramatic moment.

Ohne Titel / Without Title, 2002
( Was denkbar ist, ist auch möglich) /
(What is imaginable is also possible)

35 mm Film, 3'03 Minuten (also on DVD)

World Trade Center in New York.
